14.03.2025.

- The project is part of the Integrated Information System for Risk Management and Prevention, totaling €72.3 million, of the AEGIS program.
On Wednesday, March 12, the contract for the National Crisis Management System and National Database was signed at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, in the presence of the Minister, Mr. Vassilis Kikilias. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Evangelos Tournas, the Deputy Commander of the Civil Protection Operations Center (ESKEDIK), Brigadier General Mr. Anastasios Michalopoulos, the CEO of the Society of Information, Mr. Stavros Asthenidis, and the CEO of Nova ICT, Mr. Alexandros Bregiannis.
The primary goal of the system being developed by Nova ICT is to enable Civil Protection officials to make optimal decisions, organize all available resources, and manage all events, having access to high-quality and accurate information and data.
It is part of the Integrated Information System for Risk Management and Prevention, totaling €72.3 million under the AEGIS program. The project serves as the core of the digital infrastructure for managing and preventing natural disasters.
Through the creation of an information system based on advanced technologies and AI, all Civil Protection entities will have access to high-quality and accurate information and data for decision-making, resource organization, and optimal event management. This enables real-time updates, timely field coordination, and ensures the best handling of emergency situations.
The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, highlighted: “Utilizing new technologies and Artificial Intelligence has been one of our primary goals from the outset of the Ministry. This project is the most important initiative within the AEGIS program, which will decisively enhance the capabilities of our field operatives: firefighters, civil protection officials, police, the Coast Guard, the Armed Forces, forestry officials, and all those who make split-second decisions and strive to save lives. Greece’s example will soon be followed by other countries worldwide.”
The Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tournas, emphasized: “It is an important tool. Information is available even from open sources, and we are continually acquiring new data. We have the National Meteorological Service, the Observatory, hydrological and seismological institutes. We have various systems, and new ones are being added for the Fire Department, the ESKEDIK, and the Ministry of Environment, as well as for all related Ministries.”
On his part, the Deputy Commander of the ESKEDIK, Brigadier General Anastasios Michalopoulos, stated: “In the arsenal of tools we have for risk management, we are adding one more, the National Database. An integrated risk and prevention management system through which we acquire the ability to assess spatial and temporal probabilities of events that could endanger human lives.”
The CEO of the Information Society, Stavros Asthenidis, stressed: “We are fortifying the country and civil protection with new technologies that are absolutely necessary in times of crises, which are not only environmental and climatic. All expenses related to civil protection, climate change technology systems and cybersecurity should now be considered defense expenses.”
The CEO of Nova ICT, Alexandros Bregiannis, emphasized: “We are continuously working to bring innovation to every aspect of daily life. In collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, we are implementing a Holistic Crisis Management and Prevention System, which, using innovative technologies and Artificial Intelligence, will enable the State to enhance Greece’s operational readiness in the face of natural disasters (floods, fires, etc.), as well as risks arising from human activities—both accidental and intentional. We take great pride in once again leveraging state-of-the-art technology to support the invaluable work of the State in such a critical field as Civil Protection”.
